The Avett Brothers and Randy Travis

I think all my blog followers should check out the recent episode of CMT Crossroads with Randy Travis and The Avett Brothers. It is great! I'm pretty sure I have a major crush on the Brothers, especially when they are singing a good ole country song. Love it! I promise, if you don't like country music you will still enjoy this.

Sit back, sip some cider and enjoy.

Thanksgiving 2012

Thanksgiving.

I love food.

I love stuffing.

Turkey.

but mostly, desserts....

Oh, and family too! ;)

This was our third year of hosting the entire Scott family for Thanksgiving.
We enjoy it so much and hope it will become tradition.

And this year Sam was mobile and so much fun.

Sibling love with Sam!

It is a Scott family tradition to run a 5k turkey trot the morning of Thanksgiving. Luckily, the first year we hosted Thanksgiving, Edmond was hosting their first annual turkey trot. What started out as very small the first year, has nearly tripled the third year.

                                                  Pre-stretch, checking out his competition.

Always making a statement.
Finished!

Oh, Brian such bold colors, short shorts, thunder thighs, mustache and closed eyes....this picture makes me laugh.

We always wait for the awards because Greg always places.
This year we were in for a big surprise.

It needs to be known that Brian's goal, every year, is to beat his sister.  He struggles to keep up with her, but somehow manages to out sprint her at the end. This year she stepped up her game and left him in the dust. Finishing in the 23 minutes. BT finished in the 24 minutes. He later told me he was "afraid you (as in me) were going to catch up with me. I felt like I was going so slow at the end." Yeah, ummm not sure how to take that.  I did, however, set a new PR finishing 26:06. What, what?!  (It must have been the new TSwift CD that made me run so fast. Maybe that is what BT needed at the end and he could have beaten Jen? Ha!)

And Ed.... we can't forget him. I, of course, save the best for last.

Ed was unsure whether or not he would be able to participate this year. He has been having some back issues, but decided to dust off the old running shoes for our 3rd annual turkey trot race.

And, W
ell, he came in 2nd  place in his age group. I have never seen a man his age jump and run so fast to receive his medal. There should have been a medal for that too!
I wish we would have filmed his (and our) reaction to hearing his name being called.
Lots of cheers, high-fives and Laughs.
The medalist himself.
Rubbing it in.
Greg also placed 2nd in his age group.
After a great run, we headed back to run around with this little guy. And start the prepping for our Thanksgiving feast.

We checked out the dog door several times.
Played in the leaves.
More leaf fun.
We had to dump it out.

Then Sam found the latter that uncle Brian forgot to put up.
So we climbed it several times.
Oh, I did snap a picture of the 'man of the house' carving the turkey.

But then quickly back to this cute little guy.

Sam got pretty good at blowing his nose and clapping for himself.
So funny!

After a long, long day Sam Sam was so tired.

Uncle Brian rubbed his belly! Sleepy boy!

It's not a complete Thanksgiving week without a trip to see the CHK lights. And Sam loved it!

It was another wonderful Thanksgiving this year. It was such a joy to hang out with our nephew ( he actually liked me! I can't say that for Hudson) and seeing how much he has grown in the last year.  We are so thankful for everyone traveling out here and making this holiday so much fun.

This last picture sums up the end of our TG week...

Exhausted.

Christmas Shopping

I love Christmas and everything about it.  I would  have my decorations up and white Christmas playing if Brian would let me. But I am forced to wait until after Thanksgiving. It's a bummer, I know!

I have been pretty successful on shopping I must say. I have finished 2 sisters and 1 BIL. It may not seem like much, but this is a great start for me.

I went out this afternoon with all intentions of really knocking out my Christmas shopping. I really want to beat the crowds. It seems no matter the occasion (birthday, Christmas) I find myself in the dressing room trying on clothes, boots, scarfs etc. for myself.  It is a complete disaster...for the person receiving the gift, but a total win for myself. It's an awful, awful problem. Selfish. I should, however, get props that I shop for bargains. I only pay full price if I love, love, LOVE it.  For example, I found a cute shirt for under $10 today. I'm slowly learning how to work the system.

After my unsuccessful/ successful (depending on how you look at it) shopping trip, I have decided I am better off online shopping. I am less likely to "add items" to my shopping cart because I can't try it on.

I pray I am not the only one out there with this problem.

Here's to searching for "free shipping codes" for the next few weeks.

Happy shopping!

Party

Our friends Ryan and Chesney are moving to Colorado next week. I feel like we keep losing our friends to that state. It must be amazing! ;)
We hosted a little farewell party before they head to the Rockies!

Chesney and Ryan are on the far right.
They will be missed!
"Movember" participants (creepy!)

Several geologist are participating in the annual, month-long event involving the growing of mustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of prostate cancer and other male cancer initiatives. Otherwise; known as "Movember".
Ryan, the guy in the middle, had a full beard when he arrived to the party. Michael, on the left, bet him $5 dollars  he would not shave it into a mustache. His wife was 100% against it, as was I. But at some point during the night he shaved it off. It took his wife, and myself,  a while to realize what he had done. It was hilarious. Of course, I had to snap a photo. There is now a $10 bet he will not keep the stache the whole month of November.

A few of us girls!

Me and my stache ;)

We will miss you guys! But are excited to visit!

"Hangry"

This past Monday I had a minor out patient procedure done. It required me to be on a liquid diet the first day. And the days after only soft food. It has been a major struggle. I am starving. And I get "hangry" (greg scott- you know what I'm talking about). Poor Brian. He is so patient with me, thankfully! Brian is so observant almost to a fault. It drives me nuts sometimes. This whole week he has reminded me "only soft foods, eat only on your left side, did you take your medicine, your stitch still there?" I mean I could go on and on and on. But, I will spare you.

On Monday night, Brian headed out to have mexican with some of our friends. I opted out because I'm not sure the type of liquid meals our mexican restaurant serves. I warmed up two cans of chicken noodle soup and savored every drop of it.

All day I resisted the urge to eat one of my homemade pumpkin chocolate chip muffins. After hours of resisting, I gave in. I did it.
I took two little pitches off the top of one muffin.
I  ate it on the left side.
I don't think I even got a CHOCOLATE CHIP.
I was desperate.
Starving.
I swear.

I did not try and hide the evidence, I just hoped he would not notice.

By the time Brian got home I was already in bed. It was not 30 minutes and I received a text from brian with just this picture....

BUSTED!

I don't regret it. It was amazing! And on Tuesday I ate 5 muffins. Sooooo.... I may need an intervention.

Voting in Oklahoma

Thank God the election is over. I am disgusted with all the nasty/hate comments being posted on social media sites.

Moving forward....

When we moved to Oklahoma it was the first time I voted using pen and paper.  Good ole Morehead might be behind in many things, but we do have electronic voting machines. As my friend Jen put it,  voting in Oklahoma was like voting for "most school spirit" in high school.  ;) All jokes aside, I am thankful we can vote; whether it be by machine or filling in boxes.

As I was standing in line patiently waiting to cast my democratic vote, the couple in front of me took it upon themselves to try and convince me to vote, "anything with an R, vote R". I proceeded to turn around to see whom they were talking to. And to my surprise, they were talking to me! Who knew? Not me, considering I never spoke a word to them the entire 15 minutes I had been standing in line. I decided to respond by not responding and giving them an awkward stare. They responded with, "maybe that was not the right thing to say? Did we overstep our boundaries?" And then they quickly turned around.

This makes me wonder. ..Did I look to hip (I hope so-huge compliment!), too young to know better (whatever!) or did they know deep down Obama would be re-elected again (holla!)  Yeah, it's probably because I looked hip! I'll have to remember that outfit (shirt, leggings and cowboy boots). I kid, I kid!

One last experience at the voting polls yesterday. As I made my way out of the church, an elderly lady stopped the girl in front of me  and asked, "are the lines divided by democrat and republicans?" Sweet lady, it is divided by your address. Bless her.
